Walt Disney's "grand experiment," an epic marriage of animation and classical music stands as one of the all-time film classics, restored to its original Technicolor glory. Leopold Stokowski conducts the Philadelphia Orchestra. Segments: "Toccata and Fugue in D" (Bach) - An explosion of shapes and colors illustrate the dynamics of the music. "The Nutcracker Suite" (Tchaikovsky) - A celebration of nature and the seasons featuring forest sprites and dancing mushrooms. "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" (Dukas) - Mickey Mouse gets in over his head when he puts on a sorcerer's cap and makes a little too much magic. "The Rite of Spring" (Stravinsky) - The parade of life from single-celled creatures through the death of the dinosaurs. "Pastoral Symphony" (Beethoven) - The centaurs, winged horses and satyrs of classic mythology come to life. "Dance of the Hours" (Ponchielli) - A comedic ballet performed by alligators, hippos, elephants and ostriches. "Night on Bald Mountain" (Mussorgsky) - The great demon Chernobog looses a host of spirits, ghosts and ghouls upon the night. "Ave Maria" (Schubert) - The evil spirits are banished with the glorious coming of daylight.
