Gypsy (1962)

Release Date: 5/2/00
MSRP: $24.98

Studio: Warner Brothers

Year: 1962

Run Time: 143 minutes

Rating: Not Rated

Starring: Natalie Wood, Rosalind Russell, Karl Malden, Paul Wallace, Betty Bruce, Parley Baer

Directed by: Mervyn LeRoy

   Movie Summary: [Musicals]

Ringing with the show biz sass of its peerless Jule Styne/Stephen Sondheim score, Mervyn LeRoy's film version of the Broadway hit "Gypsy" sweeps you on a grand tour of vintage burlesque. It gets up close and personal with its depiction of the roller-coaster relationship of Louise (Natalie Wood), the wallflower who would blossom into sophisticated stripper Gypsy Rose Lee, and her ambitious mother Rose (Rosalind Russell). Karl Malden scores as Herbie, the salesman who falls for Rose--and later regrets it.
