Movie Summary:
[Horror]
This gothic horror stars Robert Stephens as Sir Hugo Cunningham, a wealthy philanthropist and avid psychic researcher in nineteenth-century England. Sir Hugo's morbid hobby of photographing people in the process of dying has yielded an unexpected discovery--a strange smudge on each and every photograph. Hugo theorizes that the shape is the mythical asphyx--the spirit of the dead. Each living thing has its own unique asphyx, which claims their soul at death. And so a plan is hatched--to capture an asphyx, and achieve immortality. But to summon the asphyx, one must start to die. And in playing with the forces of life and death, Sir Hugo begins down a path that leads only to pain and ruin for those closest to him.
